Regulatory Affairs
An authority approval is needed in most countries before plant sterol containing foods can be launched. Diminicol has so far been approved in Europe, the USA and Mexico.
Europe
Plant sterols are a Novel Food ingredient in Europe and hence can be used in food only after a Novel Food approval by the EU authorities. Diminicol is authorised to be used as Novel Food ingredient in milk, yoghurt, milk based fruit drinks, cheeses, yellow fat spreads, soya drinks, dressings and mayonnaizes.
USA
Diminicol is GRAS for use as an ingredient in margarine and vegetable-based spreads, yogurt and yogurt-like products, milk-based juice beverages, ice creams, cream cheese and cream cheese-like products, snack bars (health bars), salad dressings, mayonnaise, white breads, white rolls and buns.
Mexico
Diminicol is approved as an ingredient in all foods and non-alcoholic beverages by the Ministery of Health.
